Google announced today that it will be helping India by bringing WiFI to 400 railway stations. The announcement came after the visit by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Google’s Head Office. Google has been working hard to bring people online as the fact most of their revenue comes from internet users and they do want to leave a mark for mankind. Also statics shows that only 40% world’s population currently has access to internet services, which opens wide possibilities for companies like Google. Projects such as Android One, YouTube offline, Google Maps offline and Project Loon are some of the Google’s initiatives to bring a better online IT experience to emerging markets like India.

Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai stated “I’m very proud to announce that it’s the train stations of India that are going to help get millions of people online. In the past year, 100 million people in India started using the Internet for the first time. This means there are now more Internet users in India than in every country in the world aside from China. But what’s really astounding is the fact that there are still nearly one billion people in India who aren’t online.”

The Search Giant is collaborating with Indian Railways and RailTel to bring WiFi to 400 train stations in India. And Google claims this is not a usual internet connection, it is said to be “high-speed” broadband, which will be “many times faster than what most people in India have access to today”.

Now the best and the great part about the news, this service will be completely free. In the long run, Google expects the service to be “self-sustainable” and get some profits in order to further expand to new stations.

It’s a great news for 20.5 Million daily travelers who will surely be benefited by this Move from Google. So do share this with your friends and family. Google released an image on their official blog about the first 100 Cities who will get this service.
