Android has gone huge and the number of user is immense. When you have such a large user base, the problems with the Smart Phones has also risen. Now if you own a Samsung phone, this tutorial will make your life easier. We all at times face lags, freezing and other application related issues with our Samsung Phones. We are giving you a how to guide to fix these issues by restoring the phone to its original stock rom.

We at techturtle would like to mention again that this only applies to Samsung Android Phones. So please only try if you are sure about what you trying to do.

  1. The very first step is to find out the model number of your phone. For finding that navigate to settings>about device>Model Number

If you are unable to find the model number, this way than you can use some popular apps like Phone INFO Samsung for the same.

  1. After you finalize the model number, the important step is to find the stock firmware for it. The most trusted source to find stock firmware for Samsung Android phone is SamMobile Website. Once you visit the website, try creating a free account and of course if you interested you can take their premium services as well. After creating a free account, navigate to firmware section.

  1. In the firmware section, input the model number which you discovered in the step 1, you will see the device name appear in the suggestion, select the same and search for it.

Now the list will give you all the available versions of firmware for your phone from various geographies. Please choose the one which is relevant for you.

In my case I am choosing India.

Advantage of using this method, you can either upgrade your phone’s firmware to an updated version or can even downgrade it to an older version.

Click on the version which you want to flash on your Samsung device and procced for download page. Now based on your subscription of SamMobile, you will get to choose the download option (Regular or Premium). Premium has its own benefit, but if you only going to visit the site once in a blue moon than why waste your precious money, just go for regular download option.

Since this mode is regular download mode, it may take some time to download. Just make sure that you have a stable internet connection. Based on personal experience we won’t recommend it doing over mobile data as its quite unstable.

  1. Meanwhile you are downloading the firmware, let make the system ready for other prerequisite. We will need to have following to complete the task. The links are attached for the software, so just click to download them.

  1. Once the firmware has been downloaded, just go ahead and unzip the file. In the unzip folder you will see a file with extension tar.md5
  2. Now we need to procced on your phone. I would suggest taking a backup of your important data. As a basic use you can use apps like SMS and Backup Restore and for apps you can use some application which does not require root like helium.
  3. Once the backup is completed or you don’t wish to backup anything we will procced with the firmware flashing steps. For the same first connect you Samsung Device and Check if it’s being recognized by your Windows Computer. If yes then you can power off your Samsung device, otherwise try to uninstall and reinstall Samsung USB Driver. Also if you have any Samsung PC Suits like Kies or SideSync, Close them from system’s task manager.
  4. Once the Phone is power off, Hold the volume down key along with Menu Button and then push the power button.

  1. This will give a download mode for your Samsung Android Device.

  1. After that connect the data cable to phone and PC and wait for couple of mins for drivers to finish installing. Once the Drivers are finished installing launch Odin which you have downloaded earlier.

  1. The Odin utility will look like following and please don’t change any option on that. Let all be selected to default.

  2. Now click on the AP and browse to the tar.md5 which you extracted from a zip file (Downloaded from SamMobile).

  1. Once you have selected the file, you will see some messages on the Odin Message section. Make sure that you have a message stating that Checking MD5 finished successfully.

  1. Now, you can proceed with final step and click on start. Make sure once you click on start, do not touch you phone, wait for the process to finish. Once the process it finished the phone will reboot automatically. The reason we have hidden the firmware version so that people will not get confused.

  1. Once the phone is rebooted, it may take some time for load the settings as its will be booted as a fresh device. You will see the same interface which you might have got when you first purchased the phone. Go thorough it and install all the application which you want and this should resolve the Software issues which you had earlier with your phone.

Happy Flashing Guys!!!
